Author Guidelines
Annals of Nursing Science and Practice (ANSP) is a peer-reviewed open-access journal published twice a year (June and December). We welcome original research articles (e.g., observational designs such as cross-sectional, cohort, or case-control studies) in the field of nursing science, clinical practice, and healthcare education that have not been previously published in other journals.
To be successful in the submission process, please refer to the following points:
- Read the Aims & Scope for an overview and assess whether your manuscript is suitable for ANSP.
- Understand the publication ethics, AI Usage Policy, copyright, authorship, and formatting requirements.
- Ensure all authors have approved the content of the submitted manuscript.
Manuscript Preparation
Word Count and Formatting
The main text of the manuscript must be between 3,500 and 6,500 words, excluding the reference list, tables, and figure legends. Use Times New Roman or Helvetica, 12 pt font, with 1.5 line spacing. Titles and internal content for all tables and figures must be formatted in 9 pt font, with single spacing. All manuscript files should be prepared in an editable file and saved as .docx or .rtf (manuscript files with a PDF extension are not acceptable).
Use a journal template
Authors are required to use the official ANSP template. We recommend using Microsoft Word 2010 or later to ensure the layout and styles function correctly.

The main body of the article must be written in English. However, there is a Bilingual Requirement for Abstracts: Abstracts must be submitted in both English and Bahasa Indonesia. Ensure that spelling and grammar adhere to standard academic English usage.
Article Structure
Based on the journal template, the article structure must be sequential and contain the following sections:
Title
The title should be short, clear, and explain the contents of the research paper in an informative way. Avoid writing non-standard abbreviations and terms in the title.
Author(s)
The name of each author is written in full (not accompanied by an academic degree), the address of the institution where the research was carried out is written with the name of the department/division followed by the name of the university/institution. If there is more than one affiliation, use numbering as a superscript (avoid the asterisks). Use the asterisk superscript (*) for the corresponding author.
Abstract (Summary)
Abstracts must be between 250 and 350 words and submitted in both English and Bahasa Indonesia. The abstract must be structured containing: Importance, Aims, Methods, Findings, Implication, and Ethics approval and funding. Citations are strictly prohibited within the abstract.
Keywords
Provide 5–10 keywords. The use of Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms is strongly recommended to improve indexing and discoverability. Keywords are separated by comma (,).
1. Introduction
Provide the scientific background and rationale. Describe gaps in existing evidence that the study addresses. Clearly state the primary objective or research aim at the conclusion of the Introduction section.
2. Methods
The study design should be clearly specified (e.g., cross-sectional, prospective or retrospective cohort, case-control). Describe the setting, data sources, participants (eligibility, sampling strategy, sample size), variables, measurements, and statistical methods. Authors should describe anticipated sources of bias and the strategies used to minimize them.
3. Results
Report participant flow, baseline characteristics of the study population, and the distribution of primary exposures and outcomes. Report effect estimates (e.g., odds ratios, risk ratios) with measures of precision such as 95% confidence intervals.
4. Discussion
Summarize the key findings in relation to the study objectives. Interpret the findings within the context of the study design, compare with previous research, and acknowledge important limitations. Explain the relevance of the findings for nursing practice, education, leadership, or health policy.
5. Conclusion
Provide a concise summary of the overall contribution of the study. This section should not introduce new results or interpretations but should clearly state what the study adds to existing knowledge.
6. Mandatory Declarations
Authors must include the following sections before the references: Word Count, Funding and Support, Data Sharing Statement, Ethical Approval and Consent, Author Contributions, Acknowledgements, Generative AI Transparency Statement (disclosing any use of AI tools in writing), and Conflict of Interest Disclosure.
7. References
Each article must contain a minimum of 25 references. At least 85% must be from primary sources (peer-reviewed scientific journals), and references should be published within the last ten years. All entries must strictly follow the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition format. Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software (e.g., Mendeley or Zotero) and add the DOI link.

Publication Stages
1. Submitted Stage
Authors can send submissions online when they already have an account on this website. At this early stage, notification of submissions will be immediately received by the editorial board. Therefore make sure:
- The manuscripts that will be sent are in accordance with the provisions of ANSP.
- Complete the submission metadata on the form provided on the website.
- If there are problems during the delivery process, please contact our support office.
2. Pre-Review Stage
In this second stage, the manuscript submitted by the author will be processed by the editor. The pre-review conditions are as follows:
- Editors who process the manuscripts are selected by the editorial board based on the suitability of the scientific field.
- The time required for processing is at least 2 weeks after the manuscript is received.
- Some points reviewed by the editor at this stage:
- Does the manuscript match the focus & scope of ANSP? If not, the submission will be rejected immediately.
- Does the manuscript match the journal template and word count requirements? If not, the submission will be returned for revision.
- Has the manuscript passed the plagiarism check? If not, the submission will be returned for revision.
- The deadline for revision at this stage is a maximum of 2 weeks.
3. Reviewing Stage
The quality of the publication is determined at this stage. The editor will send a request to the reviewer to review the manuscript, with the following conditions:
- Reviewers are selected by editors based on their scientific expertise (at least 2 reviewers).
- Reviewers are given a deadline of 2 weeks to respond and 4 weeks to complete the review.
- The editor together with the reviewers will review the manuscript using the double-blind peer-review method (both reviewer and author identities are hidden).
- After the review process is complete, the editor will make a decision based on the recommendations:
- Minor revision: The manuscript will be returned to the author with a deadline of 2 weeks.
- Major revision: The manuscript will be returned to the author for revision and will be reviewed again in the second round.
- A notification that the article is accepted and can be published is sent once criteria are met.
4. Editing Stage
The work at this stage is mostly done by the editor. This work takes at least 2 weeks.
- Copyediting
The editor will check each manuscript and edit it if necessary. Checks carried out include:
- Grammar, typing errors, and clarity of figures/tables.
- Reference style (APA 7th Edition) and ensuring all DOIs are searchable.
- Checking the Mandatory Declarations (including AI Usage Transparency).
- Layout Editing
The editor will convert the manuscript to a PDF format according to the ANSP layout template, providing page numbering, DOI, and CC-BY license information.
- Scheduling Publication
Manuscripts that have passed the publication stage will be scheduled immediately. Each issue is published in the last week of the scheduled month (June & December).
5. Indexing Stage
ANSP operates with an open-access policy, meaning all articles published immediately can be read and downloaded for free to the public. To increase dissemination, publications will be indexed automatically. Based on our copyright and license policies (CC-BY 4.0), authors can redistribute publications in institutional repositories or social media, provided that ANSP is cited as the first publication venue.
